Stormtech Canada Associate Handbook
SAFETY SHOE ALLOWANCE PROGRAM
1. PURPOSE Stormtech is dedicated to achieving and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace for all associates. As part of these efforts, Stormtech requires all employees working in the warehouse to wear steel-toe safety shoes. Stormtech will provide employees an allowance towards the purchase of steel-toe safety shoes and other personal protective equipment that is essential, and required, to perform work duties. 2. SCOPE This policy applies to all full-time regular and part-time regular employees that regularly work in the warehouse, in Canadian locations, and have successfully completed their probationary period. 3. POLICY • Safety Shoe Allowance will be available once every two years. • Each associate will be eligible for $150.00 CAD to put towards the purchase of safety shoes. • Steel-toe safety shoes must be approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). A green tag on the safety shoe will indicate if the shoe is CSA approved. • Employees may submit reimbursement for one pair of safety shoes in the two-year period. • Should an employee use less than their eligible amount every two years, the remaining unused amount will not carry forward into the next year. • Should an employees’ employment end within 60 days from receiving the allowance, the safety shoe allowance amount will be deducted from the employees’ final pay cheque. • Safety shoe allowance is not considered a taxable benefit as per the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as the Company requires employees to wear safety shoes. • The period an employee works contractually will be recognized towards their probationary period. And contract employees will be eligible to participate in the safety shoe program immediately, should they transition to a permanent position in the warehouse. Employees pay for their safety shoe cost personally. • Complete the Safety Shoe Allowance Reimbursement Form and forward to People & Culture for processing, along with the original receipt(s).
