ANTON HUGO As a photographer, I now travel the world with the goal of capturing its beauty, exploring new landscapes, and immersing myself in the cultures of the people who call those places home. In June 2023, three friends and I embarked on an adventure through Namibia and South Africa, two countries that boast some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world. Our journey began near Cape Town, where we hiked several trails offering stunning views of the coastline and city. What makes Cape Town truly special is how the city integrates with its natural surroundings. Rather than leveling mountainsides or clearing forests, the city is built around them, creating a uniquely beautiful urban landscape. You could easily spend two weeks exploring just the Southern Cape of South Africa and still only scratch the surface of its beauty. Namibia holds a special place in my heart. Its vast, empty expanse makes you feel like you’re exploring an alien world. There’s nowhere else on Earth quite like it. The country’s immense size and small population mean you can drive for over five hours without encountering another car. The landscapes are otherworldly. My favorite spot is Sossusvlei, home to some of the oldest and tallest sand dunes in the world. These dunes are massive—some take well over an hour to climb. And if you’ve ever hiked in sand, you know how challenging it can be. But no matter how tough the climb, the view from the top is always worth it. If you go at sunset, you’ll witness the sand change color throughout the day, which adds to the challenge but also makes for fantastic photography. The 900-year-old trees of are another incredible sight. Walking through this ancient salt pan, you can’t help but reflect on the history and age of this unique place.
