Cutting Edge Fabric Technologies
With a heritage of over 45 years outfitting adventurers for extreme weather and conditions, innovation is at the core of Stormtech’s culture and values. Our durable, functional, contemporary clothing is built using advanced fabric technologies, along with smart sourcing and manufacturing.
SYNTHETIC DOWN
DURABLE WATER REPELLENT
Since 1983, all Stormtech outerwear fabrics have been treated with a durable water-repellent finish and a protective waterproof coating. The DWR helps water bead off the surface, while the separate 600– 1000mm coating on the backside of the fabric provides our baseline level of water resistance.
Introduced in 1988 to increase the waterproof rating on outdoor garments while at the same time allowing heat and water vapour to escape. The technology appears in all 2, 2.5 and 3 layer outerwear fabrics.
Introduced in 2023, this light weight/high loft technology provided the impetus for developing lighter weight, high-loft thermal shells that retained their thermal properties in cold and wet conditions with minimal bulk.
This was developed to control odor and extend the life of the garment by minimizing the need for frequent washing. The treatment inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria over the life of the garment. technology
Introduced in 1992, the engineered yarns draw sweat away from your skin and push it to the surface of the fabric, helping regulate body temperature during active use.
H2XTREME® Ultimate Storm Protection
Designed to keep you dry from both rain and perspiration, H2XTREME® uses a waterproof membrane to block water and wind, while releasing internal moisture vapour to keep you warm and comfortable.
WATERPROOF Keeps outside moisture from penetrating the fabric. The waterproof rating is typically
BREATHABLE
The movement of air from the inside out of the fabric to the other to keep the wearer comfortable. The breathability rating is typically expressed in a gram measurement of how much vapor a square meter (G/M2) of fabric will allow to pass in a 24-hour period (typically, 1,000G/M2 to 10,000G/M2) the higher the number, the more breathable the garment.
expressed in milliliters (1,000mm to 10,000mm) based on water pressure tolerance over a 24-hour period. Generally, the higher the rating, the higher the waterproof protection.
